The Three Musketeers is a novel written byAlexandre Dumas in 19th Century.
It is a well-known hictorical novel which describes the period of Spain while a conflict was begun and the crowd was engaged in a war with the royalty. The book is about three (then four) musketeers, who is against the king and fighting for Spain. We can understand the conflicts from this part of the book:
"In those times panics were common, and few days passed without some city or other registering in its achives an event of this kind. There were nobles, who made war against each other; there was a king, who made war against the cardinal; there was Spain, which made war against the king. Then, in addition to these concealed or public, secret or open wars, there were robbers, mendicants, Huguenots, wolces, and scoundrels, who made war upon everbody. The citizens always took up arms readily against thieves, wolves, scoundrels, often against nobles or Huguenots, sometimes against the king, but never against cardinal or Spain.""The Three Musketeers"
There are lots of misunderstoods about book. Firstly, The Three Musketeers aren't just three musketeers, as told in final chapter of novel; they are four musketeers. Members of the group is Athos, Porthos, Aramis then d'Artagnan. Athos is immune to romantic emotions and d'Artagnan regards him as father. His real name is Armand de Sillègue d'Athos d'Autevielle (He is from Spain). He is the last introduced musketeer. Aramis is a deep religious young. His name is Henry d'Aramitz. Porthos is a dandy who is admires fashionable clothes and his real name is Isaac de Portau. Our protagonist's real name is Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan. As I've mentioned, he is not one of "The Three Musketeers" in sense but we know that he is going to be one of them at the very end of novel. We begin the novel in France, where a young man from Gascony (a city in France) named D’Artagnan sets out for Paris with three gifts from his father: fifteen crowns, a horse, and a letter of introduction to M. de Tréville, who is a Very Important Person since he commands the King’s Musketeers. Our protagonist always wanted to be one of musketeers but he has got no talent except he is a gentleman with his sword. His good manners, determination skills and pluck lets him to be best friends with Porthos, Aramis, Athos and also lets him to fall in love with Constance Bonacieux.
I suggest this book to all historical war lovers and who admires little adventures, sometimes sacrifices, rarely defeats and mostly wins. I loved this book and the part I liked most was when d'Artagnan said this: "My faith!" replied D’Artagnan, recognizing Athos, who, after the dressing performed by the doctor, was returning to his own apartment. "I did not do it intentionally, and not doing it intentionally, I said ‘Excuse me.’ It appears to me that this is quite enough. I repeat to you, however, and this time on my word of honor--I think perhaps too often--that I am in haste, great haste. Leave your hold, then, I beg of you, and let me go where my business calls me.".
The only thing I can say about this book is "Read the book thanks later...".
